If you see a psychologist, then yes!
How it works is if you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan (obtainable from a GP) you will be given access to ten rebated sessions per calendar year. You receive six initially & then an additional four after going for review with your GP.The rebate covers a portion of the cost of sessions; currently the medicare rebate rate to see a clinical psychologist is $141.35.
Keep in mind that if you access a mental health treatment plan, your GP will need to give you a formal mental health diagnosis which will be on your health record.
You are also able to claim rebates through your private health insurance, however all providers are different so please reach out to them to find out what they'll cover.

That all depends on you really! If you are wanting to gain some skills to navigate challenges, 4-6 may do the trick. If you are wanting to have a deeper understanding of yourself, identify & heal different patterns of behaviour and make sustainable change in your life, it takes a little longer to pull back the layers & get to the root cause. Some people may be able to experience this level of transformation in ten sessions, for others, twenty sessions, and others a little longer; It's really quite hard to put a timing on healing!
What we will say is that therapy comes in chapters. You might find it useful to address something specific in this particular chapter of therapy and set an intention around where you would like to be as a result of attending therapy. We will never keep you longer than you need, and that decision will always be something you come to with your therapist.
People may attend therapy for twelve months, take a year off to integrate their skills & new way of being, and come back later for a 'top-up' or to explore a new thing that has come to the surface.
We are always happy to go at your pace.

Yes we are & sure thing!
We do our best to create an environment that is comfortable for all kinds of preferences. We will check in with you around temperature, offer blankets if that feels good & happily sit on the floor with you if you're happier there.
We are also happy to switch to telehealth or phone last minute; no need to share your screen if you'd prefer not to show your face some days.
We have a big bowl of fidgets in the room, water on offer in the space (to remind you to drink!) & blankets for an added sensory experience.
Most importantly, we value your lived experience & will remind you of your strengths whilst also validating that having a neurodevelopmental difference is also a disability that poses many challenges.
We will work with you to self-advocate & step in to support you when needed, whether that's for accomodations at uni, work, within your relationships or in seeking a formal diagnosis from a psychiatrist.
The founder Laura is also neurodivergent & values supervision from other people with lived experience to ensure we are providing the best possible service for our community.

We sure aim to be! We have heard soooo many stories of people feeling othered by therapists who misgender them or their partners, or feel as though they are being judged.
So from the get-go; we won't do that (sounds simple right but we know it goes a long way!)
Our therapists are either members of the community themselves or fierce allies who seek additional supervision with those with lives experience to ensure their services are queer friendly & safe.

Good question, we wonder that sometimes too! Basically, psychologists have received additional training in both treating & diagnosing mental health disorders as specified by the DSM-5 (the Diagnostic Statistical Manual for Mental Health Disorders).
The government gives rebates to psychologists because they are invested in people's recovery back to a place of 'functioning' aka being able to contribute to society by working and paying taxes, as per the medical model.
As therapists do not have the same training in diagnostics & treatment of mental health disorders as per the medical model, they do not receive funding from the government.
This is super disappointing as it pushes people into a medical model of treatment rather than acknowledging an individuals social & emotional wellbeing from a place of mental maintenance, mental health prevention & being able to explore how we can thrive amongst chaos in today's society.
We understand that it is an investment in time & resources to see a therapist. We would encourage you to view mental health as you would your physical health. We try to go to the gym or engage in physical activity because we know it's good for us. We invest in our physical health even through the government doesn't.
We want to challenge how mental health maintenance is perceived in this country & offer unique ways to tap into service.
Will we still offer rebates where we can? You bet. But therapists are also seriously so so skilled and they will continue to be an integral part of what we are building here.
